The Big Green Weekend
27 June 2008

David Bellamy was at Haven's Big Green Weekend on June 20th 2008
"Haven Holidays are the UK's greenest Travel and Leisure company" said Professor David Bellamy – and the Big Green Weekend on Midsummer's Eve was a chance for all 35 caravan parks to celebrate their green credentials.
David Bellamy was there to help, travelling to seven different parks over the weekend to spread the green message and lend his support. He led a beach walk at Devon Cliffs, a nature ramble around the lake at Burnham-on-Sea, opened the Wildlife Garden at Quay West, hosted the Family Park Rangers at Greenacres, discussed the Green Vision at Hafan y Môr, judged a junk art competition at Haggerston Castle and planted a tree at Berwick.....all in the space of four days!
All the parks took part arranging activities that included organised beach cleans, rock pool rambles, fancy dress competitions, pond dipping, kite flying, junk sculptures (including a caravan), bug hunts, book stalls, dune walks and more! Holidaymakers were invited to take part in a photography competition to submit their best wildlife or wild flower photograph taken over the weekend.
Team Members were encouraged to use public transport, share a car or come to work by bike or on foot; bins were removed from offices to minimise waste and focus on recycling; plastic cups were banned and lights were switched off.
David Bellamy said "Wow! The Green Teams are working! The Big Green Weekend has shown that on each park something special is going on. All across the country Haven is at the cutting edge of the three R's ...reduce, re-use and recycle. And what a fantastic job they are doing!"
