What’s on in the Lake District 2024
A visit to the Lake District offers lots of opportunities to explore the local countryside, towns, and attractions, with our Lakeland park as the perfect base for a break in the region.
There’s always plenty going on in this part of the world, so to help you plan your itinerary for your next stay, here’s a snapshot of what’s on in the Lake District in 2024.

Not sure when to head to the Lake District? Here are some events that happen all-year round
Friday Night Social Dancing
When: Various Fridays throughout the year
Where: Victoria Hall, Main Street, Grange-over-Sands
Not far from our Lakeland site, in Grange-over-Sands, you can practise your moves at a welcoming social dance, available every Friday. There’s no teaching, so just grab your partner and join in.
Ulverston Street Market
When: Every Thursday and Saturday
Where: Market Street, Ulverston Town Centre
Ulverston residents are mighty proud of their weekly market, which still draws in the crowds. There’s an eclectic mix of stalls available, with everything from toiletries and trinkets to snacks, with traders lining up along its cobbled streets. There are also plenty of shops and cafes to pop into while you’re there.
June
Grasmere Gallop
When: June 1-2
Where: The Showfield, Stock Lane, Grasmere
This family-friendly weekend event includes trail running, Nordic walking and so, so much more. There’s a teddy dash for under fives (and their teddy companions!), walks, runs, stalls, workshops, talks and on-site catering.
Lake District Classic & Performance Motor Show
When: June 2, 2024
Where: Hutton-in-the-Forest, Penrith, Cumbria
This classic car show is set in beautiful grounds, which you can explore around the scheduled parades and talks on the day.
Arla Great North Swim
When: June 7-9, 2024
Where: Brockhole on Windermere
Now the UK’s biggest open water swimming event, take your pick from six different open water swimming distances for an incredible collective experience. So pack your wetsuit, and dive in!
August
Kendal Calling
When: August 1-4
Where: Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe (near Penrith)
Deemed “the UK’s most picturesque festival” by the Daily Mirror, Kendal Calling is a popular annual music event that attracts top artists and fans from far and wide. The 2024 dates and line-up are yet to be announced, but taking to the stage in 2023 are Kasabian, Blossoms, Royal Blood, Annie Mac, Frank Turner, and many, many more.
The Crossing 2024
When: August 22-25, 2024
Where: Whitehaven, Cumbria
This mountain biking event spans 200 miles over three days, stretching from the Lake District to the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors.
